When we study Groundhog Day, you must read this article on the film career of Harold Ramis. The article also explains how Ramis's relationship with Bill Murray fell apart after this movie was made. In class, we'll have a Bill Murray/Harold Ramis film fest, and watch a number of their classics, including Ghostbusters and Stripes.

Keeping Track of the Movies You Watch

Because many of the films we see this year work for SAT essays, you want to keep track of the basic information for each film. One method for recording this information is a mindmap. A mindmap is a diagram used to represent words or ideas linked to and arranged around a key term. Here's an example of what a mindmap looks like.

Here's the link to a mindmap you can use to record information about the movies we see. Feel free to create your own, using pictures and colors that will help you remember the important facts about the film.

Vietnam War Era Films

As we read The Thing They Carried, a Vietnam War novel by Tim O'Brien, we will watch film clips that address the war. A few of the films we will see include:

Forrest Gump
Good Morning, Vietnam
Apocalypse, Now

We will do a multi-media study of the war in conjunction with the book. Your assignment for this book is the study of a Pulitzer Prize winning photo from the Vietnam era. For a preview of the photos, see my website.
